WordPress 3.0.1 is available for download and upgrade.
But I am facing problem in automatic upgrade. When I try to automatic upgrade, it displays “Briefly Unavailable for Scheduled Maintenance” info message and after 5 minutes it says that up-gradation fails. I tried it on my another blog and it fails too.
It does not show me the reason of failure.
Can I anyhow know the reason of failure? I am on DreamHost server.
Is it something to do with some plug-in or rights? I was able to upgrade before.
Is it something with this version …

It really is a surprise to me and you may be surprised too when you would come to know that you can access your articles on wordpress hosted blog from a shortcut URL if you remember the article title.
How?
Let me explain this to you. It’s really simple and quick too.
When you type your blog url and followed by a character or a word then wordpress searches the first article with that char/word and if found, the page is redirected to that article.
Let’s suppose; I type an url www.nkjlive.com/a then wordpress …

Few days back I had setup a personal profile for Ankit @ ankit.jainji.com. I use Dreamhost web hosting so while adding this domain I mistakenly selected the following option
“Add WWW: Make http://ankit.jainji.com/ redirect to http://www.ankit.jainji.com/”
i.e. the site should always redirect to the domain name prefixed with www.
I installed wordpress on it and set it up completely.
After couple of days I thought of not having WWW in the beginning as it is a subdomain and subdomains generally don’t have WWW prefixed with them. It was making the domain name longer too. …

Do you also run a blog having multiple authors? Do you mind giving your authors specific feed to the articles they publish on your blog? I am sure you don’t.
See how you can do it in WordPress.
Every author on your blog is identified by a unique name which is generally the first name appended by middle and last name. If you are not aware of the user name, then navigate to www.yourblog.com/wp-admin/users.php. You will see a list of users’ blogging on your blog.
The first column of the list is the …

I just now upgraded my other wordpress blogs to the latest released version 2.9.
And suddenly a page with the message “Briefly Unavailable for Scheduled Maintenance. Check back in a minute” appeared. It never happened before with any of the upgrades. I thought the server is taking time to upgrade it.
I checked after 10 minutes and the message was still there. I was terribly frightened of the possibility of loosing all settings / plugins / theme customization and probably data too (though data might have been safe in mySql). I know …

Do you also go to Google or any other site for a quality image search every time you are writing an article?
If yes, then let’s make your job a little easy.
You can make use of a wordpress plugin, Freebie Images, which is so powerful that you can search images within your “Add New Post” page and it also allows you to embed the searched photo right from there. It’s drag n drop. Can we ask for anything more?
Just Download and activate the plugin and it’s ready to use.
Now, whenever you …

I was recently working on reinventing the categories of NKJ Live so had to create couple of new categories. While creating, I noticed that WordPress does not maintain the case of the category name when adding.
Let’s suppose if I create a category with the name “Education”, the category which gets created is “education” i.e. word case is not maintained.
I found this behavior very inconsistent as sometimes it was maintaining and many a times it was not. So I had to manually edit the category name.
Another issue that I always face …
