I heard about bbPress recently when I was looking for a Forum CMS for one of my new projects.

They explain it as:

bbPress is forum software with a twist from the creators of WordPress.

bbPress is focused on web standards, ease of use, ease of integration, and speed. We’re keeping things as small and light as possible while still allowing for great add on features through our extensive plugin system.

I was really happy to have found it, as it was from the WordPress community and it is a trusted brand.

I downloaded and installed it to play with it.

Its look and feel is very similar to WordPress. But the features are very limited and it is understandable as it seems to be in its very early stage. There  are no major default features but most of them can be incorporated with the use of plugins.

I started searching for some themes and plugins to know if it is as popular as WordPress is.

But wait a minute, I suddenly encountered a very distracting page. Look at it yourself:

The text reads:

The bbPress Showcase has been discontinued.

The removal of Sam Bauers and the halting of 2.0 was a clear and final sign that there is no interest in allowing bbPress to become a mature, robust program and community.

By now bbPress 1.5 could have been in alpha but instead bbPress development has been deliberately stagnated, which should be a very alarming warning to everyone.

In addition, bbShowcase had only six donations in 2009, which indicated to me there was no interest in my work.

My code will remain on as open source GPL for those that wish to use it, however I caution you to consider bbPress’s lack of leadership before continuing to use it.

I then googled Sam Bauers and recovered that he worked for Automatic, the company behind WordPress and bbPress.

What does this page mean? Would bbPress going to last long like WordPress or vanish very soon?

There are a lot of questions in my mind and I am not sure whether I should go for bbPress or not?

Anyone recommends / suggests  something?
