Google has made their URL shortening service goo.gl public so that anyone and everyone can use it.

Previously it was not accessible publicly but people could still shorten their url on goo.gl using extensions for browsers like Firefox and Chrome, but now Google has made a dedicated website for general people to make use of this service.

Few points about it:

  • You can simply navigate to goo.gl and shorten your URLs.
  • You can login using Google account and track clicks on the shortened links.
  • You can see the list of shortened URLs in various forms like in last “two hours, day, week, month or all time” and track the history of shortened URLs.
  • URLs (shortened using goo.gl service) redirects are 301, so the shortened URLs will get all the back-links. Good for SEO.

So, enjoy the goo.gl service endlessly.
