It is really strange to know that the US superchain market Walmart and for that matter fast food giant McDonald’s employer strength around the world is at 3rd and 4th place respectively in the list of world’s biggest employers.

The list is topped by US department of defence with a huge 3.2 million workforce followed by China’s army with 2.3 million force.

The US Defense Department, with its headquarters at the vast Pentagon building in Virginia, is keen to the top place of the world’s largest employers list and thus includes civilian support staff in its numbers. Chinese military is otherwise the biggest with 2.3 million active forces only and not civilian staff.

Indian Railways and Indian armed forces fall at number 8th and 9th positions. India has the 3rd largest army forces in the world after US and China. But Indian Railways figuring low down in the list is bizarre. Indian Railways was always assumed to be in top three.

Number 10 in the list is Foxconn, a Taiwanese electronics producer, which has 1.2 million employees, making well-known products like the Apple iPad in its vast factories in China, where hundreds of thousands of people work.
