It might have gone unseen that Google has recently updated the Gmail page and its Gmail Logo.

According to the Gmail team:

Our goal was to keep a familiar look while freshening up the graphics and trimming down the text (we cut out over 250 words in the process)

They have also updated the Gmail Logo making it in line with the latest Google Logo.
