How To Remove Encrypted Footer in Free WordPress Themes

If you are a website designer and design websites on WordPress CMS and look for Free themes most of the time then this article might be of your help.

Many a times the sponsored links in the footer of the theme are encrypted so that the user cannot play with them. When you open footer.php of that particular free wordpress theme, you might see a garbage string which is actually an encrypted code starting with

This file is protected by copyright law. To reverse engineer or decode this file is strictly prohibited.

Playing with the encrypted code may prove fatal for your site.

When you something like above in the footer.php, and you wish to modify the sponsored link hidden in the above code then you might want to read further for the solution.

Solution is extremely simple.

Navigate to index.php of the theme and look for <?php get_footer(); ?>

Sandwich the above code statement between <!–FooterStart–> and <!–FooterEnd–> as in the image below.

Open your website in any browser and “View Source”, the HTML source viewer command. (Right click on the page and it is one of the menu options)

Look for <!–FooterStart–>

You would notice that some HTML code is generated between FooterStart and FooterEnd when the page is rendered. Copy that code and paste it to the Footer.php. You can then modify whatever you want to.
