Political Reservation for Women in India

Why do women need reservation in political arena in India? India has always been a country where men have dominated the lifestyle, decision and aspirations of women. For a thousand years old civilization women are still not independent. Though many have managed to cross this barrier but I am talking about 95% women in this country who are still dependent upon male family member; be it the father, brother, husband or son.

Even after 63 years of independence we still do not have even 10% women representation in our politics. But do we need to promote them with the help of quotas. In this case, YES. No political party is keen to give tickets to any women, not because she is a female but because the candidate opposite to her would be a male who has an upper hand in the society and that would not be a fair play.

But if a particular seat is made a women seat then all candidates would be females and would be an even game.

For me, if a reservation is given to a particular segment of our society to uplift their status then the reservation should  definitely be made but only temporarily; something like make the reservation law for 10 or 20 years to help them uplift themselves and should be abandoned after that.
